Weekly Dispatch- June 23d, 2025
Good morning!
This weekend, many Keys Dems activists attended Leadership Blue where the training sessions were well worth our time. I really appreciate all of you who took the time to attend Leadership Blue and learn how together we can organize Monroe so we get Democrats elected! We are fired up to share what we all learned!! Attend our Keys Dems Meetings to hear all about it!
June Keys Dems Meeting
Middle Keys Dems will meet in the Marathon Public Library at 5:30 pm on Thursday, June 26
In Key West, we need your help with Key West Pride Week. Pride has always been both a protest, and a celebration. It's been a time to fight for LGBTQ+ rights, uplift our joy, and show up for each other. Under this administration, this fight has never been clearer. Email me or text me to volunteer to help set up our booth for the Pride Street Fair beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28th. We need volunteers to work our booth from 4-9 p.m. on Saturday so when you email/text me include the time slot that you will be there for. At our booth, we will be registering people to vote. Florida needs to reactivate 1.3 million vote by mail voters. Vote by Mail voters vote at a 95% rate. The PRIDE 2025 theme is Still Rising in Pride. The Parade will take place on Sunday beginning at 7:00 p.m. and we need lots of volunteers to join us for the Parade as well – Come join the fun!!!!
Saturday night, Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on Iran without Congressional authorization. His 10 pm press conference echoed calls for peace—but ignored the Constitution, the War Powers Act, and public debate. Congress has not declared war. The bombing of Iran without authorization cannot become routine. We must insist:
Only Congress can declare war, not the president.
Once power is given away, it's rarely returned.
Senators must be held accountable for both the bill and the war.
Our organizing can make a difference.
Why the Reconciliation Bill Is Even More Dangerous Now… We must stop this bill.
The Senate's version of the reconciliation bill is alarming. Most informed citizens oppose it. The bill requires only 50 votes to pass because it is a reconciliation bill. That is why using every available avenue to oppose it is urgent.
$793 billion in Medicaid cuts, threatening healthcare for 10+ million
Work requirements that would strip benefits from millions on Medicaid and SNAP
Medicare cuts, harming seniors, and rural healthcare
Expanded presidential control over federal agencies and emergency powers
Massive sell-off of public lands to corporate interests
Vague war provisions—tailored to justify unilateral escalation
This isn't accidental—it's strategic. This bill is Project 2025.
We're standing at a crossroads—and the path forward is being built by all of us who refuse to give up.
In solidarity,
Holly Hummell-Gorman, Chair
