Voting Methods

Vote by Mail (VBM)

Voting by mail is a safe, secure, and convenient way to make your voice heard. Thousands of Monroe County voters choose to vote by mail because it allows them to participate on their own schedule and avoid potential Election Day challenges.

Why Vote by Mail?

  • Vote at Your Convenience

    • Complete your ballot from the comfort of your home, on your schedule.

  • Take Your Time

    • Research candidates, ballot questions, and local issues before making your decisions. You don't have to feel rushed in a voting booth.

  • Avoid Election Day Problems

    • Unexpected work schedules, family emergencies, illness, transportation issues, long lines, or bad weather won't prevent you from voting if you've already returned your ballot.

  • Track Your Ballot

    • Florida voters can track the status of their vote-by-mail ballot through the Supervisor of Elections office to confirm it was received and counted.

How to Vote by Mail

Step 1: Request Your Ballot

Request a vote-by-mail ballot from the Monroe County Supervisor of Elections.

You can request a ballot online, by phone, by mail, or in person. Vote-by-mail requests remain valid through the end of the calendar year of the next regularly scheduled general election.

Step 2: Complete Your Ballot

When your ballot arrives:

  • Carefully read all instructions.

  • Fill in your choices completely.

  • Place your ballot in the provided return envelope.

  • Sign the voter certificate on the envelope.

Important: Your signature is required. Unsigned ballots cannot be counted.

Step 3: Return Your Ballot

You may:

  • Mail your ballot back to the Supervisor of Elections.

  • Deliver it in person to a Supervisor of Elections office.

  • Deposit it in an authorized secure ballot intake station (drop box) during designated times and locations.

Because ballots must be received—not merely postmarked—by Election Day, voters are encouraged to return ballots as early as possible.

What If I Change My Mind?

If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot but decide you'd rather vote in person, you can. Bring your vote-by-mail ballot with you to your polling place. Election workers can cancel the mail ballot and issue you a regular ballot to vote in person.

If you no longer have your vote-by-mail ballot, election officials can verify your status and provide instructions for voting at your polling location.

Election Day Voting - August 18th

  • Polling places open at 7:00 a.m. and remain open until everyone in line to vote by 7:00 p.m. has voted.

  • You must vote in the precinct where you live.

  • You must bring your ID.

  • Precinct location updates are mailed to you on a Voter Information Card.

  • “Where do I vote?” Find your polling location!

Early Voting gives you the flexibility to cast your ballot before Election Day while still voting in person. It's a convenient option for voters who want to avoid long lines, scheduling conflicts, or unexpected issues that could arise on Election Day.
