The weekly dispatch- April 28th

Good morning activists!

We, the people are making things happen!  Let's celebrate the ruling made on April 25th, "The League of Women Voters is heartened by this ruling, which is a major victory for voters across the country,” said Marcia Johnson, chief counsel of the League of Women Voters of the United States. "While the fight is far from over, we're glad the court agreed that a President cannot ‘short-circuit’ Congress and unilaterally use an illegal executive order to obliterate the rights of millions of voters. Broadly, this executive order and the SAVE Act try to make it more difficult for American voters, particularly women voters, to participate in our elections — but the League hasn't and will not back down. The League of Women Voters will continue to fight to defend our democracy from those who seek to restrict it.”

The Florida Democratic Party (FDP) held a Zoom meeting last week where all the DEC chairs discussed a statewide push to get Dems registered to vote!  In order to do so in the Keys, we need at least one Voter Registration Lead in each area of the Keys who is willing to take the training provided by FDP and utilize their toolkit to help manage the Voter Registration Volunteers in your area.  If you are interested in being a VOTER REGISTRATION LEAD, please email me  (chair@keysdems.com) with VRL in the Subject line.  Thank you!

We need action to tell Congress that defunding programs to protect and support women from sexual assault and violence MUST NOT OCCUR! Here is a link for review of action taken by many members of the US House of Representatives and sent to AG Pam Bondi.  There is also a script in the second link to use to call and write your District Representative’ as well as Florida’s Senators.  Our District Rep. Carlos Gimenez DID NOT SIGN THE LETTER
