The Supremes did WHAT?

Good morning Democrats!

I might have to do a little ranting today. I will try not to curse, but seriously Supreme Court, WTF!

You accept a fake case and then condone discrimination. You end Affirmative Action for education (unless you are a “legacy student” or an “Athlete”) But not for the military? But wait, there’s more. Biden’s plan to eliminate College loan debt is a no go, but it was ok for certain members of Congress to get their PPP loans forgiven?

Cruelty seems to be the primary goal of this court. Cruelty and White Male Supremacy. (My opinion)

Here is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s take on another Supreme Court Ruling.
“The anti-abortion campaign is the largest suppression of civil rights in the nation’s history. Women make up 50.4% of the U.S. population and still face daily discrimination that can be life-threatening. This isn’t merely an “agree to disagree” issue or “a matter of opinion.” The antiabortion stance is not based on science or logic or even the history of human rights. It’s a position that lacks merit, consistency, or constitutional standing. I know proponents of banning abortion think they’re being moral, but they are actually the opposite. They think they’re strengthening the country, but they’re weakening it. Not one antiabortionist could stand up to any scrutiny of their arguments without, in the end, having to default to religious faith.
Our Constitution protects the practice of faith, not the forcing of faith on others. In fact, we are also protected from that. It is vital that in the next election, we make that irrevocably clear.”

AGREED! Elections have consequences! The winners get to stack the courts and that has been the goal of the GOP ever since the Civil rights era of the 60’s and the Women’s Rights movement of the early 70’s. Oh, I forgot, the GOP has been trying to kill Social Security and Medicare for far longer than that.

WAKE UP AMERICA!

We must elect folks who will protect our rights and pass the laws to make that happen.
I am not going to go into the new voter Suppression laws being passed everywhere. BUT……

Precinct leaders, if you have any Voter Registration forms with our 3rd Party Voter Registrar number on the back, shred them. As of July 1, they are no good. Thanks to the grand Wizard, oops, the Governor and his cronies, we are no longer able to register voters!

Don’t worry, we have a work-around. Attend the next meeting in your area and learn about that!

  • Drinking Liberally will meet in the back room at VFW POST 3911, 2200 North Roosevelt Blvd., Key West at 5:30pm.

 
July 7-8, Phil, our Vice-chair, Linda – our Twitter Queen and I will be attending Leadership Blue in Miami this coming weekend. We will be in meetings all day Saturday learning some new skills and serious networking with DEMS from across the state. Our new state chair – Nikki Fried is making things happen!

Make it a point to attend our meetings in July up and down the keys and we will bring you up to speed. It will take a concentrated effort on everyone’s part to reduce the Tallahassee Taliban’s hold on Floriduh – The state where Democracy is being strangled by a bunch of greedy, power-hungry Fascists.

I met with our Fundraising team this past week and we reviewed some events coming up to help us raise the resources we need to win.
 
We are also doing our annual collection of school supplies for the United Teachers of Monroe to hand out to those students who need some help with necessities: backpacks, pencils, tablets (the paper kind) and notebooks. For now, we have only one drop-off point – the reception area at the Sugarloaf Lodge, MM 17 on Sugarloaf Key. We are looking for other locations to help with this initiative in Key West, Marathon, and the Upper Keys? Please let me know if you can help!
 
Have you signed the petition to get abortion rights enshrined in the state constitution? There will be some folks walking around the White Street area before the Fireworks with petitions. Otherwise, you can go online, download, print, complete and mail in. https://floridiansprotectingfreedom.com/
 
Did you know that Monroe County is considering changing to a Charter County? We need to be better informed about this issue as we will be asked to vote on it, possibly next year. I would like to create a committee to study the pros and cons so we can make a recommendation based on the facts. This is a great project for armchair activists! Email me to volunteer.

Do you like social media? We are looking to broaden our team of social media managers, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok. These are 4 platforms with different audiences. (We are considering adding a 5th) We would like to create a team to coordinate messaging across these platforms and keep out the trolls. Email me.

We are also redesigning our website and will need someone dedicated to maintaining/updating the information as needed.

We have other positions within our team available for those who want to learn more about politics and be involved in the process.

Let’s make a pact to declare independence from Ron DeSantis and free DeSantistan from his fascists policies!
