Letter From the Chair - November 21, 2022
The United States has survived another Election Cycle. This time with a lot less DRAMA and lying, well except for the Desert Queen who obviously wants to be the Wanna be emperor’s new Vice-emperor.
I am hoping Mr. Jack Smith smacks the cuffs on and says, “Uh, we need to talk”. Or, REP Cicilline, (D-RI) might get a referendum passed to prevent 45 from being eligible under Amendment 14 of the Constitution. Something about people who organized an insurrection being prevented from running for office. DUH, Let’s get on with it.
Meanwhile, it’s Thanksgiving week! I am thankful I will not be missing Thanksgiving Dinner with my Key West Family! (Unlike last year when I had COVID)
I am thankful for all the volunteers, and donors who helped us along the way. I am thankful for the great candidates who ran. We did not have a quality candidate issue. We are just outnumbered by folks with a different worldview (in Floriduh!)
Enjoy however you celebrate the day the original Americans fed a bunch of illegal, undocumented refugees! (Fleeing Religious persecution, according to legend).
Be mindful of traffic as your travel this week. Give yourself a break from National news and enjoy the cooler weather!
If you are looking for a civic project, our favorite School Board member, Sue Woltanski would like folks to be aware of a Book Banning effort by Moms for Liberty. This group of closed-minded authoritarians has been attending School Board meetings and reading parts of books in an effort to get them banned. We need a few Volunteers willing to show up and counter the effort with positive comments about the book. Get in touch with Sue for more info. kingwolt@yahoo.com or 305-240-1565.
Don’t forget about our traditional December Holiday Fundraiser at the home of Steve Smith and Paul Murray on Atlantic Blvd. in Key West, Friday, December 2. We want to remember Steve in a way he would enjoy. This event was his idea back in 2017. There will be wine to taste, door prizes, food, and good company. RSVP and get your tickets at: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/holidayminglejingle22
I would be remiss if I did not mention the mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. All is not well in a country that cannot respect other ways of living that harm NO ONE! My life has been enriched by the members of the LGBTQ community I have gotten to know.
Note – to honor those killed or injured, Historic Section 93 of the Key West Rainbow 25 Sea to Sea flag leaves Key West for Colorado Springs today. There will possibly be a ceremony/unfurling in front of their City Hall on Weds.
Please continue to let your elected officials know that we need better Gun Laws!
More info about other December events next week!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
