Letter From the Chair - January 18, 2023
I hope you will bear with me as I try to get caught up with all the activities happening in the Keys. Many wonderful, motivated people are working to make the Keys, and by extension, our country, a better place for all.
Here is a list of Activist Group Meetings, Rallies, and Protests in January. Show up and meet our local heroes!
NOW – the National Organization of Women is holding an event at Bayview Park in Key West this Saturday, January 21. “BIGGER THAN ROE” is all about the way SCOTUS seems intent on taking women and our country backward! Join us for some enthusiastic sign-waving and short speeches. We will be there doing Voter Registration and getting
petitions signed. It starts at 10:30 am. This event is in conjunction with a Nationwide NOW/Planned Parenthood event happening on Sunday, January 22.
NOW meets monthly in Key West in the back room at Sally O’Brien’s. The next meeting is Weds. January 25 at 5:30 pm.
The Keys Immigrant Coalition (KIC) is hosting a presentation on the changes to rules governing immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua. This will occur in the upstairs Community Room at Bernstein Park on Stock Island on January 24 at 6 PM. This locally based activist group works hard to help immigrants get documented. Now we need our Congress to get serious about immigration reform. We need more workers!!!
On January 31, the Lower Keys League of Women Voters is hosting an event at Key West City Hall with Solar United Neighbors to learn about residential solar power. 6-7:30 pm
The Keys Dems will start meeting in person in February. I will have a schedule in next week’s newsletter.
Mark Your Calendar for a Fundraising event in Key West at the Historic Home of Shirley Freeman and Harvey Server. February 15th. More info within days, but we have a special guest – Debbie Mucarsel-Powell!
Like I said, Mark Your Calendar!
That’s it for now
I hope to see you Saturday!
